The Royal Orient is one of the most lavish, luxurious and prestigious trains of the world. Developed on the lines of famous Palace On wheels, it was started as a joint effort between the Tourist Corporation of Gujarat Limited and the Indian railways during 1994-95.
The coaches being used for the Royal Orient were the replacement rake for the ageing Palace on Wheels rolling stock But this new ICF(Integral Coach Factory) built replacement rake was rendered useless due to some reasons. And the Gujarat Tourism and Indian Railways decided to run it as the Royal Orient. The livery was changed to a blue scheme. The Royal Orient rake is maintained at the Western Railway workshops located at Ajmer.
The coaches of the Royal Orient are fully decorated with all the comforts of the best of five-star hotels with a bar and a multicuisine restaurant on board. Well equipped with modern amenities like intercom, channel music, TV, DVD and massage-cum-beauty parlor among many others, a travel on the Royal Orient surely provides its passengers a wonderful experience.
