Ranakpur is located at about 86 km north of Udaipur in Pali district in the state of Rajasthan and it is counted among the five most important pilgrimage sites of Jainism. Situated at an altitude of about 160m above the sea level in the Aravali ranges it houses an exceptionally beautiful temple, The Ranakpur Jain Temple. Its history dates back to the 15th century AD when Rana Kumbha of Mewar gave a large stretch of land in a quiet and picturesque valley, deep in the Aravallis, to the Jain monks. There are also some other temples worth visiting in the complex, the famous being the temple of the Sun God.
Other important tourist attractions nearby Ranakpur are Kumbhagarh Fort, a historical site located at about 30 km northeast of Ranakpur. There is also a small wildlife sanctuary here famous for wolves. The Muchhal Mahavir temple here is famous for its distinctive feature where a statue of Lord Mahavir with a mustache has been kept.
And truly quite a few places in Rajasthan can match the ambience of Ranakpur.
